Local Organization Strives To Reach New Heights in Food and Nutrition
Chicago, Ill. (Jan. 26, 2012) – The ever-changing food and nutrition landscape continues to force organizations to rethink objectives in order to maintain member interest and establish a point of differentiation. Established in 1942, the Chicago Nutrition Association recently underwent such a change with a complete brand makeover. Its new mission, goal, logo and name were revealed at the renowned Signature Room at the 95th as it celebrated 70 years.
Market research and member feedback highlighted existing gaps between the Association and its members, and provided several ways it could differentiate itself from other similar groups. Based on the research, the Association was renamed to the Chicago Food and Nutrition Network, which stems from its renewed mission: To be a diverse group of professionals devoted to connecting people through fun, educational experiences within the food and nutrition world. Eat. Learn. Connect.
The Network hopes to re-gain member interest and attract new professionals with its updated mission and goals. “Our focus has shifted to member promotion and providing educational networking opportunities that, in turn, help members become superior community resources,” said Jennifer Seyler, president of the Chicago Food and Nutrition Network and nutrition communications expert. “We are a diverse group of professionals that have a common ingredient – a love for food and nutrition and a hunger to keep learning. We want people to eat, learn and connect.”
Composed of chefs, dietitians, entrepreneurs, food journalists, food service directors, food scientists, spokespeople, writers and more, the Network members are distinguished, influential and recognized locally and nationally. “With such a diverse group, our members have the opportunity to feed off of each other to help enhance each person’s professional career,” said Dawn Jackson Blatner, food and nutrition expert, and Network board member.
One of five board members, Blatner is joined by a strong food and nutrition team, including personal chef and Drizzle Kitchen owner, Kendra Peterson; Dave Grotto, author and founder of Nutrition Housecall, LLC; Melissa Dobbins, Owner of Sound Bites; and Judith Jarvis, director, Dairy Science Communications at National Dairy Council.
“Our board members bring a variety of experience and connections to the group,” added Seyler. “It is our hope that the revitalized Network becomes a platform for members to connect and form strong Chicago-based food and nutrition professional relationships.”
Some of its upcoming events include a Goose Island Brewery tour, Kendall College Healthy Kids Cooking Class, and a Fair Oaks Farms Brands Drink and Learn Tour. “In an age of social media, it is important to connect in person, and that’s what the Network provides,” commented Grotto. “Our events provide valuable information presented in a memorable and fun forum.”
The Network is supported by a variety of Chicago-based companies, including Current Lifestyle Marketing, Egg Nutrition Center, Fair Oaks Farms Brands, Hooray Puree, Midwest Dairy Council, and PepsiCo Nutrition. Additionally, to demonstrate the importance and ease of connecting food and nutrition, the Network continues its long-standing partnership with Kendall College.
